2020 Lockdown Earrings

Kandinsky Bubbles

Kandinsky and Bubbles
are made of Niobium which is a reactive metal like titanium but can be anodised rather bright colours - the colouring is entirely in the mind. It's a feature of refraction.
The niobium can be blackened, scraped back to the bare metal and anodised with a painbrush connected to a voltage-regulated power supply. It's that easy.

A pure sil disc sits behind like a reflector, and are hung on solid sterling silver hoops. Sterling silver earwires.

Kandinsky and Bubbles, 24mm dia discs: $NZ200 or so

Burst Bubbles

Niobium is punched right through to imitate what happens when we ignore the advice of our Health Officials

A pure sil disc sits behind like a reflector, and are hung on solid sterling silver hoops. Sterling silver earwires.

Burst Bubbles, 18mm and 24mm: $NZ125 and $NZ200

paua sputniks

paua sputniks
The classic sputnik earring design features the concave inside of the shell. The New Zealand paua shell - haliotis iris - I use is from Stewart Island, the Chatham Islands, or the Southland coastline, places where the seas are roughest and the shell is thickest.
A pure silver reflector disc sits behind like a reflector, and both discs are hung on solid sterling silver hoops. Sterling silver earwires.
Four sizes available, with various shell diameters: maxi 30mm, midi 25mm, mini 20mm, micro 16mm.

paper-tiger sputniks

niobium paper-tiger sputniks
The sputniks earring design is continued with a modern space-age metal. Niobium (or sometimes titanium) discs have been given a strong random texture for a tiger-like surface, then anodised in contrasting colours. Niobium and titanium are refractive metals and may be coloured with anodising. They are not dyed.
